Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage

Staithes Festival has established itself as one of the friendliest festival on the coast – a must-go-to event in the regional arts calendar.

During the weekend some 100+ cottages in the village become temporary art galleries in a unique selling exhibition. Staithes heritage is also celebrated in fossils, fishing, historic photographs and film shows.

Parking in Staithes

Parking in Staithes is very difficult. There is no parking in the old village and we request that cars do not come down during the Festival. Cars should park in the public car park at the top of the village just off the A174 or at one of the designated Festival car parks. Our stewards from Community Traffic Management, a professional traffic management company, will direct cars to the nearest available car park.

What neither we, nor Community Traffice Management can do is prevent people lawfully parking on the road outside people’s homes, but we ask that visitors be considerate of residents over the weekend and park in the  car parks rather than the road so that inconvenience to residents at the top is kept to a minimum.

Please note charges apply. The car park owners set the charges, they are usually around £5 for a full day.

Glenvale is a private car park nearby. Spaces can be booked in advance by contacting them on 01947 840590.

There is some alternative parking at Cowbar. Continue along the A174 towards Loftus and turn right at the Cowbar sign. There is a private car park on the left and it is a short walk down the hill into the village.

Taxi Service: A taxi will be available once again to provide help to visitors getting up and down the steep hill to and from the old village.  The taxi can be picked up at the council car park and will be well signposted.  The drop off is yet to be confirmed. We expect the taxi to operate between 10am-4pm and is free of charge. The taxi is available to anybody, but please be considerate of those with mobility problems.
