Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage

Staithes Festival of Arts & Heritage has established itself as one of the friendliest festivals on the Yorkshire coast — a must-see weekend in the regional arts calendar.

Step inside a village like no other as the doors of cottages are thrown open, transforming Staithes into a trail of pop-up art galleries showcasing painting, print, ceramics, textiles, sculpture, photography and more.

Alongside the open studios, enjoy a programme celebrating Staithes’ rich history and heritage, including walks, talks, photographs and film shows.

James McGairy

< Back to Artists

James has worked as an artist since 1991. James uses paint in response to our landscape, aiming to express a northern light, by conjuring with paint. ‘I search for subjects that inspire, I look for a ‘Light’, this is the key. I return to familiar places, sometimes I am lucky, and I try to capture a moment. I am continually thrilled by the magical quality of paint. ‘ His work is collected internationally, he has previously won prizes and was a contestant on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year 2015 and 2016. James teaches painting with workshops and demonstrations.
